Default 1pc suits with humps

I have been out riding so much over the past few months for fun and have track days booked, that I have been pondering buying a 1pc leather suit. I intend to go to a shop and try on a load to get a good fit, but what I am more curious about is race humps.

Are these things designed to:

A: replace separate back protectors (since none of the moto GP guys wear them)
B: compliment a separate back protector, as most non-pro suits will still need back protection.

Having a separate back protector is obviously a good idea, but if A is true then it seems quite a nice idea to spend the extra, and have it all built in.

Any thoughts appreciated.

Mods - I know there is a section for this, but if most people on here are like me, then I doubt it will get many views! However if needs be, feel free to move it.

Thanks
Luke

The hump thing?

That is for air flow I think. Makes the rider more aerodynamic. I am not sure if it has a safety use.

It's there as an aerodynamic mod.

Some riders store liquid in it like a camel.

Yeah I know a camels hump is not full of water.

Ah - That was going to be my C:!

So I guess for an average road/some track riding, they are somewhat unessential!

Thanks gents

Forget about the hump, but a back protector is a good idea.Make sure you leave room for it when you get your leathers.

i read an article a while ago about certain items of protective clothing designed for the road being bad for you on a track, and vice versia, not sure how much truth there was in it though.

Apologies to anyone that might have a set of leathers with the "hump" but I think they look an absolute joke anywhere except on the track.

Interestingly not only have most riders now taken to having a drinks container fitted inside the hump but there are some that have a whole range of electronic monitoring kit inside them also.
