John, am I right in thinking that's the same dam that top gear filmed at with the landrover thing?

Good spot. Yes. That's what inspired me to research it and visit. There's about 4 dams all in that one area.

Mine for the day. My daughter brought chicken for tea, but this wasn't what I had in mind

John, in that area do they have inflatable Tanks on the moors ?
for target identification for the RAF ?

I can't say. I didn't see any but then I guess they don't leave them up permanently.

They used to use those just outside the village I grew up in. Luston, near the OK Diner at Leominster. It was like Christmas for us kids, we'd go and sit on, under, next to the inflatable tanks as various fast aircraft scared the bum mouse out of us!

Later, at secondary school, we used to watch the Regiment practice low level drops from Chinooks, their feet touching the long grass before the canopy deployed fully. At the same time, A 10 Thunderbolts were pretending to strafe and bomb them.

Happy days!

Sounds great. I know the OK diner in leominster. If you follow the A44 west from leominster you end up at Rhyader which is where the Elan valley starts.
