Default Sorry to do this, but I need some advice about a dirty VTR

Hi folks, a mate of mine has a VTR Firestorm that has knackered forks. He has seen the fork swap on my SV and now craves a set of USDs for his bike. Obviously (yeah right!) he asked me for advice, but I have no clue. The last Honda I had was the 125 I took my test on a million years ago.

Anyway, do any of you know what USD forks fit on a poopy old Honda VTR? I was wondering about Fireblade with modern brakes, but I have no idea if it would fit. I found a VTR forum which seems a bit vague on the subject, so I was wondering if any of you maniacs would have a clue? It can't be that hard can it? At the worst maybe a custom top yoke? However a full swap would be preferred.

Hugs from this manky old bird who barely manages to ride anymore.

howdoo long time.

cant help with the exact swap but you can press out the stem and insert it into the new lower clamps. might need a bit of machining on both new clamps . so basically you can use any front end you like.

depends on how far gone the old forks are it might be worth just revamping them with decent internals/springs to suit weight.

It has been a long time, my failing body and then catching that horrible lurgy that was going around a couple of years ago, made riding all but impossible at times. It was embarrassing taking the bike for her MOT when she had completed less than 400 miles since her last!

I have wondered this myself, he says that the stanchions are rusted and he needs replacements, hence the idea of the front end swap to something prettier. I think that this is a swap for aesthetic reasons, rather than technical ones. I can't imagine why anyone would do something like this!

Thank you Ste, I have forwarded the information and we shall see how it goes. Either way, the wife and I look very much like we are going to be rebuilding the VTR for him. A local shop here in Weston have done some work to the bike and then Wifey has had to go and repair what was done. Lesson there is always pisk your Local Bike Shop with care!

Cool Re: Sorry to do this, but I need some advice about a dirty VTR

Well, he changed his mind and now just wants the forks serviced. Thanks all who offered opinion.
