Yeah, I'm going to garage it. I've just done all the springs (front are ****E), the rust and worry of snapping something (don't have a compressor any more) isn't worth it, if it'll take a garage an hour...I'll be paying that.

I also have to wait for a dry day as I'll be working on the drive which are sparse at the minute. Could do with using those for other work...or riding!

hey all, I'm trying to clean up the ancient calipers on my '05 since it would appear no-one has touched them for about 10 years... Like a fool I've removed them from the bike with the pistons barely pushed out of the bore, and of-course, I can't remove them, even with piston-pliers. Would my best bet for removal to be to re-install them on to the bike, bleed the brakes so there's some 'pressure' (is that the right word?) and then push them out as far possible using the brake lever, and then try again?

You can push them out with compressed air, I’ve used a 12v tyre inflator before to push pistons out. But it will depend on how crudded up/seized they are.
If you’ve not got a compressor then yes best way is to reconnect to the bike and use the hydraulic pressure to push them out

Best to fire them into a bucket lined with a towel. Keep fingers well clear.

Fitted some new LED spotlights. The last ones failed (Capacitor leg broke off), so took the opportunity to get some new ones, which are a bit more powerful but also have a focussed beam to help visibility and try to minimise blinding other drivers.
Just in time for the dark days coming up.

I have put YSS PD valves (cartridge emulators) in my front forks with stock springs, shorter spacers made out of PVC drain pipe, Silkolene RSF 7.5W.
Rebound holes sealed up with Loctite 3471 (cured overnight at 50 C in the oven), compression holes enlarged to 10 mm.
It's almost like a new bike. Bit too plush at 2 turns of emulator preload, now at 3 turns it feels bit too stiff but it absorbs big bumps easily.


New springs/oil can definitely wait a few months. Best spent £100 so far, just after the stock length dog bones (to bring the bike back up to stock height).

Fitted these to my SV AL7 just after I got it, don't ride in the dark and these were purely so that sleeping or distracted cagers would see me in daytime. Made a couple of brackets to fit under mirror bolts and a handlebar switch ( although they are always on ) and a fused supply from sidelight. I will never know how many times they have saved me from a SMIDSY, but money well spent.... ( they were £10 cheaper when I got them ) still going 4 years later.

Trying to be organised and methodical on this one so wrote a "to do" list and started work on the ZX6R. Not sure if I'm going to regret this. I've not done valve clearances before... but I'm going in....
