Laid off, advice needed.
Not me. My lad
Sent home this morning. Will phone you when/if something comes in. So what does he do. Sign on? What happens about his mortgage payments/insurance etc. Lots of commitments and no income. So he is scrambling round the internet getting numbers and calling. It seems to be the same everywhere "Sorry we are not taking on".

Oh no that is awful, I am sorry to hear it. What line of work is he in? Does he have mortgage payment protection/income protection for redundancy? I guess he would sign on but I am not sure I'm afraid.

Re: Laid off, advice needed.
He is a tiler. Walls/floors etc.
Not the brightest spark in the box. No protection for his mortgage/income etc. Get the feeling bank of dad is going to take a hammering. He is probably in negative equity anyway. But with girlfriend part time only work and a 2 year old I think they might just struggle.

Then he cannot afford to be proud and should take anything that comes his way to pay the mortgage until things pick up for him in his trade.

Re: Laid off, advice needed.
that's not too good really. has he tried agencies or anything? I know it might be hard but if I were him I'd be taking any form of job I could. what about labouring? might not be the best work but the longer u work the more u get paid. also would keep him in the construction industry and availinle for anything that might come up in tiling

Re: Laid off, advice needed.
So calls work. He starts tomorrow for a company in Liverpool. Beggars cannot be choosers it is not as much as he was earning. But not bad for unemployed for a day and gives him the opportunity to find something a bit closer to home/better rates etc.

he should also sign on asap, as well as obviously looking for other work. As previously advised, any income is better than none, so shouldn't limit himself to just looking for tiling work, especially in the current climate. And good luck to him!

Re: Laid off, advice needed.
Could he try plastering, possibly transferrable skills?
I know tiling is pretty easy, but plastering is a biatch. |

Great news, I hope it works out okay for him. Like you say it is easier to find a job when you are in a job
