Default Suzuki design and development

Don't know if this sort of topic has been on here before , but where is Suzuki's innovation in the design of new bikes in their range ?! Much as I like the Gen3 SV650A (apart from the seat of course ) the whole range seems to be dated - SV650 goes back years, a range of permutations on the old V strom model, new Katana is a resurrection of an old model , GSX 750/1000 not sure ,but isn't it time for something new and different ?

yup they should all be taken out and shot... just look at the new GSX 950 street bike. its fugly as fek in my opinion. same goes for the Kawasaki Z900. all modern "street" bikes look like they have just had some plastic bits bolted to them willy nilly. in my opinion the only one out there that looks in proportion is the Yamaha MT-09.

The problem is more than likely the accounting side of things. Trying to make something new out of existing parts is difficult. And without big investments, they'll struggle to do that. A bit like HD to some extent.

I imagine a lot of their cash flow is being sunk into R&D of electric right now and not something we would see for a few years. They'd be a bit crazy to design a ground up new model with a petrol engine in the current climate (no pun intended).

I'd still love to see a SV650r with quality adjustable suspension and a bit of tuning. Then again, where would the fun be in that when you can mod it all yourself. They're great project bikes.

Electric RnD is probably right. Yes we're getting some new models from the likes of Triumph in the 660 Trident (looks like its been pre-crashed from behind, just like the Katana) which will effectively become the 660 Tiger and probably a fully faired Daytona. After that I'm expecting something electric from them on top of the pedal assist electric bicycle they've put out.

It's not exactly cheap running a motogp team either but as far as I'm concerned they can sink as much as they like into it in order to get the results. Aside from that, I'd like to see a new naked SV750-V4 with decent suspension! Maybe styled by the likes of 'Seymour & Powell' !?
NOT going to happen though ... the bean counters would have a fit.

How about an up to date SV1000 then with the Vstrom 1000 engine, but in an ordinary road style bike similar to the sv650 (but with a comfortable seat ) !
Would that take too much in development costs ?

They have been developing an EV power train for a while now, in conjunction with a technical team from the Williams F1 team.

But, i can't see EV bikes taking off until EV infrastructure is solid and reliable and proven to support the day to needs of society.

Link to YT video about their development so far;

That was largely a re-hashed version of the the 675 Street Triple.
