Default starting problem after being left for 2 weeks

Hi All,

My SV650S K5 has trouble starting after being left for any length of time. It seems to be fine when only left for a day or two (e.g. over the weekend, catching within 1-2 turns of the starter) but sometimes after leaving it for a week or two (e.g. when i've been getting the train because the ice scares me) it will take ages to fire.

The battery is strong enough, it will just turn over for ages before firing, sometimes taking two or three bouts of holding the starter for 15-20 seconds.

Anyone else having the same problems? Doesn't seem to be particularly related to temperature as it was the same after a weeks holiday in August.

Cheers,
Rich.

Voltage drop from hammering a weak battery means there's not enough oomph in the spark. Faulty temperature gauge not enriching the idle. Could be a few things.

When turning it over is it getting fuel?

How would i know if it's getting fuel? It's obviously getting some because it fires eventually. The battery is not struggling (or doesn't sound like it is) to turn over the engine.

I had trouble starting my K8 yesterday. It did get knocked/blown over the other night, but I started it up the next day and it was fine. Gave it a little bit of a clean yesterday (even covered in ACF-50, some of the nuts/bolts etc seem to have been eaten a little by the grit ) and when I tried to fire it up, it wasn't catching.

Tried 3 or 4 times to get it started and only giving it some gas did it eventually catch. Maybe try blipping the throttle a little when starting?
