Default 247.2 miles and the tank is not yet empty

I went to Birmingham & back to get a range for my bike.

I was on a mixture of A roads & motorways doing around 60mph.

I arrived home after 247.2 miles and have not used the jerry can - I reckon I could get another 10-20 miles if I ride conservatively.

The Dakar rocks!

Sounds good, are you fitting a scottoiler?

I was umming & arring - I think I'll leave it off the list & lube the chain daily - it would be useless from Kaz onwards due to the road conditions.

I had to abandon the experiment as I don't want to take a jerry can to work tomorrow.

At the time of abandonment I'd completed 268.9 miles. The last 20 miles in stop/start London traffic.

It's a little bit more economical than the ol' SV....!

Why would the Scotty not work?
Surely you're just riding it more economically at 60 mph plus a bigger tank. Is it actually more economical at cruising speed of say 90?

the Stans & Mongolia are liable to be really dusty...dust & loads of oil would make some sort of paste that could wreck my chain in no time!

that is 64mpg as it is, and you reckon you have ~15 miles left, so ~70mpg not bad at all!!!

I know this is a fuel thread but you got me interested in the Scott! - surely a very light oil like used engine oil it would just run off the chain keeping it lubed but not pastey? so what will you use? is there a dry lube?

Anyway 270 miles from 17 llitres surely thats just you riding really slow rather than some miracle engine?
