How best to clean a REALLY dirty bike?

I've just bought a Yam BT1100 (yes I know but I thought it looked good) and it's dirty...I mean really filthy.

It's been used as a commuter all year round,kept outside without a cover for 18 months and has never seen so much as a damp sponge. I was wondering what miracle product could be sprayed on to start the recovery process?

I know being a Yam will mean some bits will be beyond salvation but loosening all the crud would be a start..so what do you all use for real challenges?

Take pics of before and after, need a good chuckle.
De-greaser and hot water, rinse and autosol, should take you a good couple of hours.

More often?

There's only one thing on the market, and it doesn't come cheap. Distributor is based in the Midlands I believe...

Kerosene is a good cleaner. Also, it makes it easier to set the bike on fire when you get sick of trying to clean it.

They do look ace though... I wanted one for a long time myself, when I was getting out of my cruiser phase. The lack of go's hardly the point, it's more an upright cruiser than a muscle bike. Still like 'em.

I wouldn't dare use kwak zzr on it, might put him off for life

Should pick her up this weekend if the previous owner has sorted out taking off his private plate, I'll get some pics up. Quite looking forward to riding her, nearly went cruiser after my SV's and Firestorm but couldn't bring myself to do it - the BT seemed like a halfway house

OK I recently gave the ZX6 the first proper clan in about 8 months and ooh 8000 miles through winter....

I used fairy liquid / muc-off over most of the bike first (Yes I know it's slightly salty, but the bike was caked in road salt and grease so I figured it wasn't that bad). On the swing arm and rear wheel I used paraffin and a toothbrush and an old washing up brush, then fairly liquid.

Having re-discovered most of the original colours I then cleaned the whole thing using autoglym bodywork shampoo (any cheap car wash would be fine I guess) and then used wax on the bodywork.


Results weren't bad.
