Highway Code
I must admit (shamefully) that I haven't read the Highway Code in over 40 years so when I heard about the "Dutch Reach" which is now in the Code, I investigated.
Truth is, I suspected what it was anyway - when opening a car door you use the opposite hand to the door you're opening. So you would use the left hand to open the driver's door (assuming RHD). It forces you to check for cyclists (and other vehicles I suppose). I ought to get a copy and read the Highway Code to see what else is different. (Do we still need the man with a red flag to walk in front?)

No! You are thinking of the Dutch Reach Around, nothing to do with passing cyclists although it can involve opening doors, usually the back ones Allegedly
