Question After 9 months in storage what will need doing?

Hi,

I've had my SV650 K3 sitting in storage for 9 months while I moved house. The battery died before the bike went in so that came out - on the advice of these forums I've got a new Yuasa YTZ12S waiting to go in. I also topped up the fuel and there is still plenty in the tank. It was stored in a sealed and damp-free shipping container in a warehouse and looks the same as when it went in, apart from the rear right indicator fell of and I have no idea how to get it back on.

As well as how to fix the indicator I would be grateful if anyone could give me an idea of what else should be done to the bike after its longer than expected hibernation. It needs an MOT and a service but is there anything vital I should do before riding it to the service centre?

Cheers.

B

I would say swap the fuel with new one - not mandatory though

other than that just an oil change and filter I would reckon. also check the tyre pressures obviously

I was told to put a little oil in the top through the spark plugs to ensure that the pistons are not dry on the first fire.

Make sure the new battery is charged before use,and if you are worried about the first "dry" startup, take the plug caps off and crank it for ten seconds to circulate some oil before starting.

Was there fuel stabilizer put in the tank when it was stored and ran for about 20 min. If not your carbs might be clogged. If so you have to clean out the carbs which could be a pain in the ass if you do not know what you are doing. let me know how it all goes.

Its a K3 so it'll have fuel injection, not carbs...

Make sure the battery is fully charged before putting the battery in. I would connect it to the battery tender. Then once fully topped off connect the battery and see what happens.

I know how frustrating it all is when the bike will not run. Let me know what happens.

Check tyre pressures, get it started, ride it.
I've scooped snow off of mine after it's been left outside for months over winter and it still runs fine, same battery in it from new
