Default Engine bolts - single use? Curvy.

Hi guys

My son is replacing the engine in his curvy, maybe now he'll believe me when I say they need oil checking regularly. According to the workshop manual it says they are single use only. So if he removes them he needs to buy new ones. Can anyone shed any light on this for me please?

Cheers

I've reused the engine mounting bolts more than once. I cant remember reading anywhere that they are single use, what manual are you referring to?

I re-used. Chucking them away? New one to me. F*k that. Waste of money.

Coppaslip them before you put them back, as they're prone to seizing, although obviously you've got them out?

I'm a reuser

The nuts used on the engine mounting bolts are self locking, and the service manual says not to re-use them. Almost all service manuals say not to re-use self locking nuts, and almost everybody re-uses them anyway. I know I do. If you're worried, use some thread locking compound on them.

I've reused them on several engine swaps and yet to have an issue. I suspect wideguy's comment is correct, self locking nuts can become less so over time so this may be more to do with preventing a nut coming loose than a bolt being a problem. That said they're all done up very tight, I wouldn't worry about them coming lose

Try getting hold of them 2nd hand. Difficult. Price them up new from suzuki. Overpriced.
