Default Mission Everest

Did anyone else catch it last night on Channel 4.

Whoa! Balls of Steel!

That was some risk flying that high in those winds and temperatures with no help of rescue in an untested engine.

I even had a tear when Bear's wife cried at the airport.

I'm suprised they got off the ground at all, the lack of preparation (anti freeze in the engine for cold weather testing anyone?) and amateurish outfit makes the acheivement even greater.

But still awe inspiring stuff.

yeah I saw that. Odd setup no antifreeze in that climate!!! Was nice to see that Bear was a success in the end.

The very posh fella taught himself engineering it said.... might explain the lack of antifreeze then, lol.

But yeh you gotta have some big cajones to try that way up there.
i'd like to have a go at that but i'd keep to where they wer testing in Dorset thank you.

And they raised over £2.2million for kids chairties too so far apparently, so an even bigger round of applause for these boys i think!

I taped it, intend to watch it later this week.

There was a chappy, Angelo d'Arrigo IIRC, hang glide over Everest back in 2004, he had a heck of a ride as he hit rotor turbulance, but he made it.

He did however die in 2006 i think.

Thought it was excellent! I posted on here a couple of years back asking if anyone was into paramotoring as I'd really love to give it a go. I dont think there are any clubs running powered paragliders up here yet but the sport is growing quite fast in Wales and in the South East.

Such a cheap form of powered flight too - 2T engine and you can have yourself a full paramotor kit for cheaper than you could buy a new SV!

Rob, you should also check out powered hang gliding. Better performance than paramotors.

I tried hang-gliding back in '99 when with the Air Training Corps, have wanted to get into it proper ever since.
