Default Wow, I can now get BT broadband

After years of BT saying No.

I have just checked if I can get infinity :- No, But I can have broadband. Estimated speed 1Mb.

Does the org think I should now give up my 100Mb virgin service?

When will BT ever do fibre to the home? as their copper is a waste of space.

Never to our house. I even asked when they will be installing ADSL2 and they said they don't plan to

Eventually they will, but it won't be for a long time.

There's nothin innately wrong with the copper, you're just too far frm the exchange and it probably wouldn't be cost effective to sort it.

That said if virgin serves your area there's a high chance you'll be on the infinity rollout... Alternatively fibre to the premises on demand is coming if you have money to burn.

annoying my neighbours 5 houses away are on a different exchange and have infinity. Same road, same postcode 50 yards away. My little cul-de-sac is served by two exchanges. the one about 5 miles away has infinity, the one about 4 miles away has sweet fa.

That'll do it.

It Gary's cabinet to cabinet not just exchange to exchange, down our way there's next door neighbours one who can and one who can't get infinity... Of course they get 15meg on ADSL so it's not that bad.

Could be worse, you could live in a town with aluminium phone cables and no fibre

infinity is poo. Costs more and overmanaged / profiled / whatever word they used for restricting your access to services.
Probably great for those who stream TV and eat Youtube, but for general day to day internet I find it no faster at all than my old all you can eat 6mb

The incredulous "what do you mean no?" response I get from BT when they call me every few weeks is getting irritating. I have Sky BB, it's not the fastest but it's way cheaper than infinity and is fine for our needs. BT also keep sending me "special offers" which when you look into them have a lower phone service than the anythime package I have now and a pathetic 10MB BB limit... There must be enough stupid people out there who see the word "special" and just buy it I suppose.

As only half of HW is cabled we can't get the Virgin service.

Once we get 4G up and running and properly competitive, I can see the need for a home connection un-nescessary
