Default Buying an import- what to look for?

I am looking to buy an SV650, and i noticed one advertised on the forum which is an import. Is there anything specific to look for when buying an import sv650? such as reduced power, different spec components?

Also any ideas how it affects the insurance etc? Had an import VFR400 and never had any problems with that in terms of insuring so should be the same.

Problems with getting new parts from dealer?

cheers for any advice

All parts should be the same. Main diffrences would be the headlight and clocks reading KPH, but both can be sorted out by replacing them for UK models or just adding stickers to the speedo.

There might be a couple other things but its basicly the same.

This months TWO magazine has an article on grey imports, TSM is correct, it's mainly headlight beam and kph clocks (no problem on a K3 plus), there is also some engine restrictions dependent on country of origin, they warn to stay away from the Swiss.

Having changed my headlights & loom and had the speedo converted, the only difference now is the lack of carb-warmers. As I'm not a winter rider this fact doesn't bother me It's certainly not down on power, but having said that mines an Italian Parallel import not a Grey one!!

I wouldn't worry too much about the lack of carb warmers, they don't exactly do much anyway.

European restrictions are for bikes which requre restricting to 100bhp.

Not something that affects the SV at 70bhp.

Mines unrestricted in that sense, has the Euro one headlight on rather than the 2 UK bikes have, has stickers on the speedo - but if you know how to work it out its reasonably easy to know what km/hr you should stick to and what ones = a ban if youre caught :P

Otherwise its exactly the same as a UK bike. You may find the electric wiring is slightly different though - for some reason my Italian half faired is wired like a naked.
