Recomend me a Rear Shock Spring
Husky & I fitted a ZX10R 2008 shock to my bike with an unconfirmed spring rate , this was a bit of a gamble but it turned out the spring is to soft. (I still do not have a confirmed spring rate for the stock zx10r 2008 shock).
Can you recommend a spring rate and brand for a 2000 curvy for someone that is 11 stones with no pillion passengers? |

Re: Recomend me a Rear Shock Spring
Here is the latest incarnation of the shock table....
here ya go YEAR MOTORCYCLE LENGTH SPRING ===== ========= ===== ===== 00-03 GSXR750 325mm 400# 01-03 GSXR600 325.5mm 325# 01-02 GSXR1000 329.5mm 430# 03-04 SV650 330mm 430# <<<==== stock 2nd gen... 99-03 GSXR1300(Busa) 330mm 700# 04 GSXR750 332.5mm 408# 04 GSXR600 332.5mm 425# 03-04 GSXR1000 332.5mm 480# 05 GSX-R 1000 332.5mm 450# 99-02 SV650 337mm 510# <<<====stock 1st gen 04-07 ZX10R 338mm 540# 03-04 ZX6R(636) 340mm 540# 96-99 GSXR750 345mm 375# 97-00 GSXR600 375mm 375# So take your pick from the above if you want a second hand shock. You will need something close to the standard spring rate if you really are only 11 stone, although slightly stiffer may be be better. Other alternatives are Hagon, Ohlins, Nitron etc for new, straight replacement shock. |

Re: Recomend me a Rear Shock Spring
ZX10R and the ZX6R shock are really the only options.
Although if some said to me 11 stone with no pillions I would say the stock shock was set up for exactly that. Of course you don't have adjustable compression and rebound. Have you done your front suspension? Thats where the better gains are normally found when uprating your suspension. Was it you that posted about fitting this a few weeks ago? I did think and say the spring looked alot softer than my ZX10R.

Re: Recomend me a Rear Shock Spring
I have done the front suspension (Hagon Prog springs with 15w oil).
I have also done the rear shock problem being the spring on the rear shock is to soft. Mr Speirs - That was me Last edited by TheShadow; 05-05-09 at 09:57 AM. |

Re: Recomend me a Rear Shock Spring
I have the '08 ZX10R listed at 9.1kg/mm (510 lb/in) and 338mm in length.
I just did a swap and to make it a bit easier to choose a shock (for my '05) I created a spreadsheet with as much data as I could find (from various threads, ohlins and racetech sites etc). Can't seem to upload it here, but I'm happy to email it if you want to send your email address. I ended up settling on the '05/'06 ZX6RR shock as it has one of the heaviest rates (I'm about 235lbs) and is bang on for length. It has an angled reservoir so I had to do some serious chopping of the battery box area to get it to fit. Haven't had a chance to ride it yet, nor set it up for my weight so I can't quantify the change, but just sitting on it it feels more like it ought to. Not very scientific I know, but I'm optomistic it'll be a positive change for the £60 it cost me and the few hours of labour. Edit - uploading a jpg screenshot of the chart. Re: Recomend me a Rear Shock Spring
An after-market shock set for that bike from the likes of Hagon will be the least compromised solution.

Re: Recomend me a Rear Shock Spring
I'm 10 1/2 - 11 stone and the stock shock worked fine for me?
Only problems I had was with the front being too soft. Have you tried adjusting the pre-load quite high as that tends to sort things out? |

Re: Recomend me a Rear Shock Spring
If the 08 -10R shock is indeed #510 and 338mm then it should just be like a stocker with working damping.

Re: Recomend me a Rear Shock Spring
Chris , this is the reason i tried the shock with the stock spring. But it cant be #510 the reason being is the sag i get on the bike is pretty bad , with preload ramped to full when i sit on the bike it drops down at least 15mm from the upright unloaded position , this surely indicated the spring rate is wrong does it not? I belive it should drop around 5mm with the preload set properly is this correct?
