For a newbie it is intimidating seeing all the gear some people cart around with them, but as the guys say, if that's enough to put the wind up you then you're not really in the right place. Also it's not like the people with track-only bikes are eating up all the trackday places. BTW I'm going to Cadwell for an evening on the 30th July, bit of a way off but PM me if you want to go, £49 with Easytrack.

Half the fun at trackdays is seeing the variety of kit.

Folk have ridden in on bikes they've then put round in the advance group, and folk have brought all the toys for novice. I'd say that a good 50% of novice were road bikes that have just made the trip in the back of a van. Just a marketing stunt I feel.

I'd be more concerned at a day like is being advertised.

Being for a magazine feature, you are gauranteed to get all the 1000cc hot sunday only chaps coming down with their mates trying to do each other over... Dangerously.

May be funny to go and watch though, road bikes are break a lot more than track bikes lol

Broken indicators and headlight glass take longer to sweep up off the circuit as well, so you won't get as much riding in for your money.

That's one advantage of riding with dedicated trackbikes, they don't break as much when they crash, so you don't get the hold ups.

Personally I would not fancy doing trackday with a load of people scared to do normal one.

I did OPL day at cadwell with all these race-prepped lunatics you are "reclaiming" track from and did not feel scared in slightest because these guys could easily pass me (and they did, a lot), and did it in a safe manner.
I think it would be dodgy trying to get past people wobbling about and being unpredictable, or having them forgetting to brake at the end of the straight and risking taking you out on their way into the scenery.

I like the previous trackdays they have run, like 70's, 80's and 90's etc

it just this one is a bit of a weird one.

Open pitlane at cadwell for a first trackday that was fairly brave I have to say... Easier when it's not your own bike mind

it was not technically my first trackday, but it was my own bike. Trust me it was a LOT harder than if I had ridden SV.

Lot of people think just because some dude has no lights and turns up in a van they are big racer.

Lots of road guys do this! All it takes is a mate with a van and a cheap set of spare plastics!

My pretty bog stock SV (just springs/oil, Hagon shock and braided lines) used to run happily in inters at Croft and that was my road, track, tour, do it all bike.

It'd be good if it attracts some more unusual bikes to the track (I like seeing R1150 GS etc). The reports on how these go will be interesting.
