Fitting hot grips - bike won't start!
Hi,
I've started fitting oxford hot grips to my curvy. Got the bar ends removed with a bit of hassle (bolts were solid) and got the old grips off no problem. I then tried a dry run by putting the grips on without glue and connecting to battery. I tried starting the bike but nothing happened. There is power in the battery (~12.45V) and all lights etc come on. When I hit the starter button nothing happens, no noises or anything. Any idea what could cause this? Cheers Ali |

Reckon you may have disturbed the clutch switch on the LHS clipon,
Check that and try again... |

When you come to wire them in properly make sure you use a relay, one that will only power them up with the bike is on/running.

Re: Fitting hot grips - bike won't start!
Tried messing about with everything but nothing seemed to be loose. I then got it off the side stand, kicked it out of neutral then back in and it started fine. Reckon the neutral or sidestand switch are a wee bit dodgy but that'll be a job for a nicer day. It's been blowing a gale and pouring it down the whole time I've been out there.
With regards to fitting a relay I decided not to bother as I got the new model of oxford grips that switch off when the battery gets below ~12.7V. The hot grips now work. Tested them and they started heating up, hopefully they'll get a tad hotter when I'm out and about. I need to find somewhere that sells heat shrink sleeving for the connections now as I don't fancy leaving the connections open to the elements. Any recommendations? Cheers for all the input folks! |
