Default Do I need to charge my battery?

Quicky. Ran out of petrol last night at midnight in the Lakes (long story). Anyway, while waiting for the cavalry to bring me some motion lotion, my battery went flat from waiting so long with my hazards on. Do I need to charge the battery again now? Bear in mind, I was on the motorway all the way home to Bolton (about 40 miles or so) doing a ton. Will this have fully charged battery back up or should Mr Optimate make an appearance?

I'd get Mr Optimate to do his stuff just to be on the safe side

The speed you were travelling is pretty irrelevant. Once the engine is running above about 4500 rpm it will be charging as hard as it ever will (thanks to the regulator) so in fact you would be better off going a little slower and taking longer!

If you want your battery to last it is a good idea to put it on the Optimate regularly(?weekly)to keep it in good condition. It doesnt overcharge the battery, just tops it up.

If you use the bike regularly you don't need an optimate. If in doubt, charge the battery fully, lead acid batteries don't like being discharged.
