The best bit is that FortNine a Canadian online shop, but Ryan has so much freedom to do what he wants, you can't tell,

Ok I made some progress over the weekend:-

1/. Cleaning. Did a load of that. Result is decent enough. More to do of course. Muc Off is good stuff.

2/. Servicing. Parts ordered online but I did an oil and filter change which was very straightforward. Lubed the chain too.

Bike has an R&G tail tidy fitted, but a few of the leds (all on the rhs of the lamp) aren't lighting. Brake light is fine. I'll check the connection and give it a clean and spray of contact cleaner. Hopefully that'll sort it.

The other thing is the neutral light/gear indicator (for neutral) are a bit temperamental. It always works when you switch on. After that it's a bit hit and miss. Put down the side stand and it always comes on. I'm assuming the side stand switch is the culprit here?

p.s. Just read that putting the side stand down whilst running and in gear the engine should kill it. That's the next test. Engine runs away in neutral which I assume is fine.

Yeah that's correct, some people short out the side stand interlock switch but a moving bike and the side stand down are a recipe for a spectacular disaster. Likewise shorting out the clutch switch can have consequences on modern bikes, this is from SVRider.com ( USA forum ) about riders who were having the SV650 engine cut out when slowing down for junctions, the clutch switch does more than just interlock to stop you starting in gear with clutch not puller in, it affects the ECU fuel injection timing.

I have the AL7 which is the one after the Gladius. I had intermittent problems with the gear indicator switching between 1 and 2. I started leaving it in first gear overnight and the problem went away. The switch is about £100.
You can pull the switch to look at it but there's nothing you can get at to clean (ie contacts) - it runs in oil anyway. In order to replace it the alternator cover has to come off (gasket £12) because it holds the switch cable in place.

A few more bits done:-

1/. Engine oil and filter. Must be the easiest access ever. Didn't have a funnel but managed to get 2750mls into the engine fine. Checking the level is a breeze also.

2/. The headlamp bulb shroud was a bit lopsided and loose. I got it square again and it's solid now.

Next jobs are changing the brake fluid and coolant. Weather is horrendous out this way so it might be a few days.

Any tips?

Only tip would be to be thorough about getting the air out of the cooling system.

Only managed to change the air filter today. How do you remove the airbox to clean out the drain plug?

Also where does this belong? https://photos.app.goo.gl/RVL7ERV4qVmZXEpZ6

Looks like battery hold down strap is missing, as well as holding the battery down there are some brackets on front of strap nearest tank to hold that plug thingy that is flopping around by the petrol tank - see attached PDF photo
