can I tow a trailer?
i passed my car test in september and not sure if i can tow a trailer. I plan to do a track day some time this year maybe on my own bike.
found this? https://www.gov.uk/towing-with-car/d...at-you-can-tow but seen other people's licences who have the extra part on their licence. I have an old fiat punto mk1 and plan to find small trailer to pop the bike on. dobht its over 3500 kg? |

Re: can I tow a trailer?
yes you can. But you also need to check the towing limit of your car.
the 3500kg is the total weight of the car+trailer+load=cannot exceed 3500kg. This includes the weight of shiz you have in the car also. Basically, if you get tugged and asked to go to a weigh station and you exceed 3500kg your fecked. Last edited by Wideboy; 22-04-13 at 07:32 PM. |

Re: can I tow a trailer?
A punto and a bike trailer ain't gonna be any where near the 3500 limit. Never be tempted to ride to a track day (full day) After a full day on track you will be mentally tired plus if the worse happens your fooked.

Re: can I tow a trailer?
I've towed a trailer a couple of times. A polo is less than 1000kg so you won't need to worry.
Two things about towing - 1) Give it more room when going around a bend - so you don't jump the curb. 2) Practice, practice & practice reversing - its not easy! If you're going to have a bike on it you should be fine, but a friend once told me to use a trailer with a vertical post that you can see out the rear view mirror - best advice I've received as this helps in knowing where the trailer is when reversing. Re: Re: can I tow a trailer?
Loads of people ride to track days, I've done about 10 and never fallen asleep on the ride home only reason you need a trailer is if you're fitting non road legal tyres.
