AR06
Okay we need to start organising AR06 pretty quickly as it's now the new year and peeps are wanting to get their plans sorted.
I've spoken with John today and he's very much in favour of somewhere like Lincolnshire as we haven't been there before and it's pretty central. He's also happy to sort something out in Shropshire too . So we can either put a poll up for various areas but as Sid Squid said to me this evening, people are likely to vote for somewhere near to them and all we really have then is a demographic and fragmented opinion. BigApe and Sid Squid have agreed to help organise things but all help is appreciated and if you have any ideas and info, well please speak up and join the team. As regards the date, well I suggest a poll that incorporates the last week in May right up to the second week in July (before the schools break up). Maybe the first week in July would be most advantageous with regard to good weather. If you've given the "points of discussion" thread a good look: http://forums.sv650.org/viewtopic.ph...er=asc&start=0 you'll have noticed that popular opinion favours a longish weekend rather than just a day's event so that more socialising can take place, which I reckon is a good idea. Maybe even include the Friday afternoon/evening if enough folks are interested. A central campsite (with very local B&Bs) would make sense. The one we had for AR05 was pretty much perfect and allowed us to make merry with no problems. Right, that's enough ranting, your thoughts please ladies and gents... . |

I dont know about anybody else, but I would wager that the first weekend in July will be out for the many as its the Donnington Moto GP that weekend.
I think the long weekend idea is a good one, same as the idea of a central campsite / B & B. I'd love to say I'd muck in and help, but its not really my neck of the woods so I dont know the roads. However if you want a marshall or a route marker on the day then I dont mind helping out where thats concerned. However I am definately not availabe on the last weekend in May as its mine and Liz's Birthday and her dads so we are having a bit of a bash around the 27th and 28th of May, also it always seems to lash with rain around then as well. Personally I just think you should set the date now, then that takes all that debate away and will allow people to plan in advance. HTH in some way, let me know what I can do

My major concern is that we have suitable start & finish points. Last year I thought the Little Chef would be fine, but even that car park was too small.
It will have to cater for up to 60 bikes... That's a lot of space. And here's a list of UK race dates which may be useful. The ones at Brands, Silverstone and Donnington will be the popular ones, so best we don't clash with them. 26/03/2006 Brands Hatch BSB 09/04/2006 Donington BSB 16/04/2006 Thruxton BSB 01/05/2006 Oulton Park BSB 21/05/2006 Mondello Park BSB 28/05/2006 Silverstone WSB 04/06/2007 Mallory Park BSB 18/06/2006 Snetterton BSB 02/07/2006 Donnington MotoGP 16/07/2006 Knockhill BSB 30/07/2006 OultonPark BSB 06/08/2006 Brands Hatch GP WSB 13/08/2006 Croft BSB 28/08/2006 Cadwell Park BSB 24/09/2006 Silverstone BSB 08/10/2006 Brands Hatch GP BSB . |

Personally I'd go for Shropshire of those options. Its fairly central and has good access into mid-wales (mention wales and it'll kick off as usual ). I wasn't aware of it as prime biking territory but its nice up there.
If the alternative is lincolnshire I can't think of a reason to go at all You know welsh borders (i.e. Symonds Yat, Ross, Wye Valley way) was always a good sugestion I reckon as there's loads of different areas to hit in a day but that never took off as an idea. If its a long weekend I think the idea of a number of sub-group rides is a good idea rather than the normal slow trail around. Ie. we saty in one spot rally-stylie and then people opt for rides that they like the sound of. |

Personally i'd think late may to early june would be best. Otherwise you'll have a lot of hot, sweaty, uncomfortable and possibly grumpy bikers! Since we dont go at an incredibly fast pace on the AR we wont be getting much natural air conditioning.....

That does look good.
What does John think of that then? Its got a lot of plus points: nice scenery, some interesting places to visit for the long weekenders (Ironbridge etc, Ludlow, the Welsh marches), easily reached from M54, midlander's cant complain and equidistant probably for the Mancs and Bristolians. Bit far for some Selkenters I guess but so's everywhere I'd say a yes for that one. Don't bother being democratic otherwise we wont go anywhere. |

I did mention to Jonboy, that if things didn't go well on coming to a concensus then I find something in my own backyard as a fallback.
Sythree route looks great I've done most of these roads over the years and there's a nice variety here. There's plenty of B&B's in Shrewsbury, plus theres a travel lodge on the junction of the a49/a5, shown as the start point on this route. There are others along the route including an american diner in Leominster. So it's a thumbs up from me. John
