i did nottice a rather irattic idle speek which would mean your right on that one.

instead of starting a whole nother thread, could i get away with just taking the calipers off and cleaning the end of the pistons ( the bit thats sticking ) or would a whole disassembly be better?

You can, best to do them properly (as always) but I've had OK results with pumping the pistons out as far as they will go, scrubbing them clean, lubing with red-rubber grease, pushing in and then repeating a few times. Good idea to lube the sliding pins too.

Wont make the brakes as good as with a proper clean but far better than nothing and in my experience 9 times out of 10 will still manage to free off a seized caliper (for long enough for an MOT anyway )

Atm i just need a bike that moves as the brakes are binding horribly...so i can actually test ride and then begin the strip down.

This could be quite a fun project in the end, or a complete pain.

Good afternoon all.

VFR's don't smoke as a rule. Give it an oil & filter change, & change the coolant, give it a good run & see how it goes. Also check for an oil in the airbox.
Carb balancing is a little tricky on VFR's, it helps to have the correct tools to get at the adjustment screws. Having the engine configuration they have, any imbalance seems more noticeable than on in line 4's. Hence, they can sound & feel very rough if the balance is out.

Cheers.

No probs Bbadger, it can be done while you wait, & usually at short notice. Give me a ring to make sure we're here.

If your brakes don't free off after cleaning, you'll find that a set of seals isn't too expensive.

Cheers.
