Ease My Suffering ... Broken Down In France
Hi Org,
As per title, I've broken down in France & awaiting recovery I was in a group & we already did some tests all be it without a multimeter. So can someone give it to me straight ... Am I going on or am I going home? The bike ran perfectly for 200+ miles for Friday & Saturday. No symptoms or issues starting. However today, after setting of from the hotel we stopped for fuel. Bike off Fuel up Ignition on Starter button ... dead There is now zero power. When jumped with a battery pack, the bike comes back to life & will idle. The second you touch the throttle, it will die again sometimes with the dash display random digits. However, keeping a battery pack connected & the bike runs perfectly. I'm now riding shotgun in the recovery truck with French Jason Stathem What's the likelyhood this is something simple like a battery? Or is it likely terminal ( no pun indeed) like a Reg/Rec or Stator? Any words of wisdom would be great. Cheers Last edited by Rogue_Shadow; 09-07-17 at 11:45 AM. Reason: Updated |

Sorry to hear about the trouble, what a ballache
If it runs perfectly when you keep the battery pack connected, I reckon the battery on the bike has died - a broken internal terminal post or a shorted plate, or something like that. With the external battery pack connected, it will mask the problem. A multimeter will show the problem quickly. Best of luck getting it sorted. |

Merde!
Sorry to hear of your troubles. My curvy did this when the reg/rec went, fine all day, then died at a set of lights. Hitting the start button it wouldn't turn over. Got it bump started, but the thing ran rough all the way home. Unfortunately you're in France on a Sunday, so nothing will get fixed until tomorrow

Re: Ease My Suffering ... Broken Down In France
Thanks for the replies
I'm hoping it's just a battery too. No symptoms or issues right up till it died. Straight after fuelling all the dash fired up, but after one failed start it's was completely dead, no dash, no nothing. Hoping it's not hiding a charging Reg/Rec fault, because that will surely mean curtains. The dash lights come alive again with on a battery pack & starts , but if you rev the engine with the pack removed it dies instantly Huge Kudos to Carole Nash! Worth paying the extra as they have been outstanding so far |

Could be worse. The driver could be a Charles Bronson look alike. The original 'Mechanic'.

Re: Ease My Suffering ... Broken Down In France
doubt that is the battery. its rare that a battery will just suddenly die unless its not been getting a charge which would would mean that its been running total loss and if so there is no way you would get 200 miles doing so.
completely dead would say to me that its an electrical/connector fault. up till about k7 the pointy has trouble with the green (ignition) connector but after that they seem to be fine. do you have to wiggle the key to get the steering lock off? |

Yep. Seen this recently. A knackered Reg/Rect will knacker the existing battery in short order then you put a new battery on it which goes down the toilet quickly. Sl0th86 had this and it was his reg/rect. If you charge it overnight every night you should make it home. Leave your lights off if you can.

Stu had this on his KTM and it was a battery terminal. Hope you get it sorted.

Re: Ease My Suffering ... Broken Down In France
Morning All,
Still stranded in a French Ibis hotel Latest from the garage is that they are still trying to source a battery. Bibio, yes the steering lock can sometimes be abit stiff to free up. So if this isn't a battery issue, will it be obvious once they have changed it? I've got a 5 hour ride to catch up with my group & don't want to get stranded in the ass end of nowhere Cheers |
