Yorkshire Dales AR11 proposal...recce pics
Went to the Dalesbridge centre in Austwick today to have a scout around as promised. There are many facilities onsite, also there is rather a lot of land we can use for camping. I have quite a lot of teaser pics to wet your appetites, and also lots of information to follow if we get the bid for here.
It may take a little time to get the pics up, and in the right order. So here goes for now. The Dalesbridge centre is on the A65 itself, you do not need to turn off into Austwick itself. As said previous it has good tarmacced entrance Before entering the site itself there is a large carpark down the long drive way. The reception is the left of this building, and the right is the B&B facilities. B&B side of building

Can you not find somewhere with a slightly longer access road, Scoobs will have a hard time achieving "ramming speed" on that one...

From the main entrance there are many field options. The first one we visited could have our own dedicated entrance, leading off from the main reception.
Possible standing for bikes Field entrance There are two options within this field as its one that holds 300 tents. We could have the right side cordoned off for sole use or the left, depending how many numbers we are going to attract

Bear with me as I edit each of my posts with relevant text, I'm a bit slow at that sort of thing

This smaller field, well actually its not, but it looks it on the pics is slightly more secluded. Its sat between the function rooms, bar and the back of the bunkhouses, showers and toilets. IIRC there are electric hook up points in this one. There are also some in the left hand section of the previous large field shown.
This field is accessed from the left side of the reception down a tarmacced drive.

Re: Yorkshire Dales AR11 proposal...recce pics
Down the driveway past the last field shown are shower and toilet blocks(in the background of in this first pic. There are 3 or 4 at the bottom of the bunhouses, then a row of about 6 across the top of the picture.
The bunkhouses are on the left of this picture. There are 8 bunkhouse. Four x 4 bed ones and Four x 6 bed ones. To the right of this picture there is another field for camping, as you can see there is hardstanding for bikes, the owner usually uses this field for families and vanners because of the bunkhouses, but we may if we persuade him be able to use it...possibly. This is another entrance into the left half of the very large field in the first of my picture posts. Some may remember it from AR07. The bunkhouses are basic, this is a 6 bed one. You do need you own sleeping bags etc. But the 6 bed has a kitchen, all have a toilet and seating area. The smaller ones have a kettle and microwave. They are reasonably clean...no spiders and no funny hairs hiding in plugholes!

There are 6 B&B rooms, in a cosy house. IIRC one single, the others double and twin.
The owner said there may be a possibility that there may be another two for next year. They seemed reasonably clean and tidy...I will say I have high standards over where I sleep, and I even agreed I'd sleep here instead of a tent this year! Peg never camps. I forgot to take one of the breakfast room.

Re: Yorkshire Dales AR11 proposal...recce pics
Pretty much self explanitory.....the bar. Yes it is small, but its somewhere to drink if you don't want to sit in a field, also it does have grassed area at the entrance to it to spill out onto.
Thats it for now. I have pictures of Settle for the all important off license and eatery facilities. Also one or two of the Youth Hostel in Ingleton.

Re: Yorkshire Dales AR11 proposal...recce pics
I have to say the pics don't show the shear size of the place, I was very impressed as today was the first time I've seen it.
room for about 50 people besides Tents. It's suprising how close all the facilities seem together for a big place as it all seems to be in a square. The guy seemed to like having bike groups there which was a suprise to me as I thought he would think oh no noisy, rowdy bikers. Last edited by Smudge; 18-08-10 at 06:42 PM. |
