Help! SV650 06 won't fire up
So one morning my bike just decided to not fire. The starter motor turns and it growls like it wants to start but won't, almost like the plugs aren't sparking.
Here's what I've tried: Checked spark on the plugs by holding up against frame, everything sparks nicely. Sniffed the exhaust, and can smell petrol after turning the starter motor over. Taken off and reseated the airbox and throttle bodies. All in line and all hoses and clips are connected.. Charged the battery fully over a day or two and tried again with a good kick from the battery, still no life. Can anyone shed any light?! It all seems like everything is perfect to look at. I have spark and fuel. And nothing happened to make it happen that I'm aware of, I rode it into the garage one night and then the morning after just nothing

Re: Help! SV650 06 won't fire up
Have you got any F1 warnings flashing on the dash?
I get this sometimes with my 05 model and have tried everything to find the cause with no joy. I turn on the ignition as normal, hear the fuel pump priming, press the starter and engine cranks over but won't fire. I then have an F1 warning on the dash. What I have found fixes it is to turn off ignition, put the kill switch to off, turn the ignition back on and wait for the pump to prime, kill switch back on, press starter and fires first time. Don't ask me what difference the kill switch should make, but it does! It does rather bother me as one day it's going to let me down and it's bound to be right at the worst moment.... so if this fix makes any difference to yours please let me know and together we will work it out! If it doesn't and yours is still dead.... good luck! Someone will be along in a minute to tell you to check the green plug. |

Thanks for that, I'll give it a whirl but ive tried it so many times over the last few days, with the kill switch being switched back and forth etc. I'll try again though!

Put in 'Dealer mode' as per the TPS Stetting thread and check again. May throw up a code to help diagnose.

Maybe double-check the connector at the clutch switch is pushed fully home, and is clean. Give it a squirt of contact cleaner, then disconnect and reconnect it a couple of times. If it seems a bit loose, use a small screwdriver to GENTLY bend the female tabs so they grip again.

Re: Help! SV650 06 won't fire up
I've been giving this some more thought and even pulled out the wiring diagram for my bike (K5 but probably not that different to yours). If you have fuel and a spark the only other explanation is that they are not getting together at the right time....
I'd be tempted to get a can of contact cleaner spray and start taking apart and cleaning the various connector blocks that make up the loom. The crankcase position sensor and ECM connectors have got to be worth checking first.... |
