Default Restricted licence/bikes

Just a quick link for those of you that have derestricted your bikes early and think no one will ever know.

It's an operation by Avon and Somerset police called operation torque, where they have been stopping bikes and testing them at the roadside for there power output and making sure the rider is licensed to ride the bike they are on.
I should image other forces may be capable of doing the same.

2 out of 17 mopeds were ok, and 1 bike out of 13 passed with no faults.

I think on that result you can see a hell of a lot more of these operations going on and I think other forces will be taking up this idea too.

And tbh, I have no problem with this.

My bike is restricted and I want to de-restrict it so much, dont care about the top speed since i can get a ton while restricted and thats more than enough but the extra acceleration would come in handy when doing lots of dodgy london riding.

Looks like ill just wait tho, its not that bad as Ed and darlyB will confirm

The restriction should not cause any problems when doing town riding as you use the torque down in the rev range and the restriction works higher up in the revs. Try selecting lower gears.

Dyno runs aren't easy on bikes, though... Fair amount of stress on the driveline, possible tyre wear, etc. A fit bike would be fine, but a less well kept one might not take it so well. I'd be intrigued to see what the legal basis is for it. It's like testing to see if your windscreen's proper safety glass by hitting it with a hammer.

Not easy no, but I was under the impesssion that the older car type ones were the ones that were likley to cause tyre problems and the newer ones were fine? Anyway it's only for a minute or so. TBH If your bike can't take being loaded in all gears without exploding then it's probably not best to be riding it on the road anyway....

I agree that if it explodes all over the Dyno that it would be intresting to see if the police had any responsibility to prove that it wasn't their fault? If they've got the DVLA bods there I've been told they can pretty much strip you bike down, prosecute you for anything that's wrong and leave you with the bits and no re-assembly completely legally

Say you'ev got a Royal Enfield or a restored classic? It'd be perfectly reasonable to ride one of those around even though full power would break it's back.

Or here's a more likely one, say you're running in a brand new bike? Fairly likely with a restricted licence I'd say.
