So if this isn't a battery issue, will it be obvious once they have changed it?
I've got a 5 hour ride to catch up with my group & don't want to get stranded in the ass end of nowhere

Cheers
do you have a bunch of keys hanging of the bike one?

i know sputnik in the ecosse section had problems with the ignition barrel that would render his bike dead.

squirt some contact cleaner down the ignition key hole.

So I finally got the bike back from the French repair shop, with a new battery.
I then rode from Reims to Chamonix, 3pm to 10pm
Stopping for fuel 4ish times along the way.

I'm not trying to convince myself here, but am I right in thinking that a stator / RegRec issue would of presented itself by now? The new battery isn't simple masking another gremlin?

Thinking back to day 1 with Jason Statham through a game of French charades, when the battery pack was connected to the bike the multimeter did peak above 13v when the engine was revved.
So sounds like the Reg Rec is working.
I just don't want to burden the other 14 riders I've caught up with.

Appreciate all your input so far

The battery is obviously charging but to determine if the system is as healthy as it should be you still need to check it out with a multi meter at some point.

Fingers crossed it's sorted with the new battery. If you've run 7 hours glitch-free then hopefully it will continue that way.

The thing that made me think it was a failure within the battery was a recent post from a guy on SVRider who had intermittent total electrical failure. His battery had tested OK with the engine off and at tickover rpm, it was only when the engine was revved that the fault appeared. Turned out to be a battery terminal post that had fractured clean across. It's rare, but it happens.

IMHO it's still early days. Sl0th86 had a similar problem and a new battery lasted for a couple of weeks before it went down because the RR wasn't charging it enough. 'above 13V' isn't enough info. If you can charge it overnight at your stops I think it will get you home OK. If you don't, it may not.

Agree, needs to be high 13's to low 14's volts (13.8 to 14.2 ) to keep battery in good shape.

Hope its all worked out ok mate. Dont want to worry you but if a diode fails in the R/R you can still have a charging supply but DC with an AC component. In other words some of the electricity is flowing in and out of the battery continually which slowly kills it. Its difficult to confirm without special gear but does give a slightly lower charging voltage and is a right pain because you normally ruin one new battery before diagnosing it....
