Speeding.
Just got a notice that I was doing 44mph in a 30 limit. Strange, because I know that the mobile camera van is in that Edinburgh road every morning and early evening and I adjust my speed accordingly. Still, it looks like I didn't do that on this occassion.
I passed my test in September last year and was wondering what the deal is for new riders getting points...seem to recall some issue with this. I'm starting to get worried about this guys, so any info would be a great help. Cheers |

Did you have a car licence before you got your bike licence? If yes, and you've been driving for more than 2 years, you are out of your "provisional" time anyway. For the first 2 years of your first licence, if you get 6 points they take your licence away (AFAIK). 44 in a 30 could possibly be a ban any way, depends on what mood they magistrate is in I think, although, it may be 3 or 6 points also.
Try Pepipoo forums (google for it, or someone else will be along in a mo with the actual address), they have info on these sorts of things. Hope everything goes OK Rigor |

If you get 6 points within 2 years you have to redo your test, I think... Where was the van?

For the 1st 2 years after you pass your test you can get a maximum of 6 points, (Now I always get confused on this so please correct me if I'm wrong) I believe if you get any points over 6 (so say, the 7th point) You automatically loose your licence and after a period of being disqualified you have to re-take your test. Once you've had you licence for 2 years it can have a maximum of 12 points on it before the above occurs. Points last 5 years IIRC (Though you can pay to have them removed after 3 I think)
Long story short 44 in a 30 should be £60 and 3 points. Ride real careful from now on mate

The two year rule only applies after passing your 1st test.
If you passed your car test 20 years ago then the 2 year rule doesn't apply and you have the full 12 point to play with. |
