Giving up the car!
Ok folks im just thinking out loud here...
But me and out lass have (amongst other things) a bike and 2 cars (a focus, mine and and astra, hers) Now she gets a pool car so her car can often be sat there for a couple of months without being used. So im thinking as i currently work 6 miles from home have i to flog the focus and just stick to the bike? Has anyone actually done this? My concern is in the depths of winter mainly and if were going away but i guess i could allways get the train in? wadda ya think? |

Re: Giving up the car!
If you have got a car that is sitting practiacally redundant then I think it makes sense to get rid of one. Would you not be able to use your gf's car when she isn't or when she has the pool car??

Re: Giving up the car!
I used to commute to Basingstoke from Portsmouth - about 100 mile round trip - in all weathers. T'ain't always nice, but if you have got good kit it is eminently do-able. You've got the train as back up so if needs be, I would say just do it.

Re: Giving up the car!
I did the best part of 3 years with just a bike, and about to do so again as the car is being sold, it is definitely do-able, it can be miserable in the cold and wet, but invest in some decent waterproofs and you will be fine.

Re: Giving up the car!
Similar situation here but I am moving to London in 2 weeks so got the tube as backup. Selling the car only I really don't want to as I love it.

Re: Giving up the car!
Andy, how do you think I got around before I passed a driving test?
BY BIKE! Just have to pretend its not raining, and it ain't feckin cold in Winter. After six years you get a thick skin. But today Peg took the car and I can't go anywhere...booooohooooooo

Re: Giving up the car!
Can you justify spending the money one keeping two cars and a bike on the road when one car sits and does nothing a lot of the time?
