If aimed at me there are two reasons (1) riding all year round I'm often on slippery surfaces when I'll tend to use the back a lot more than the front. (2) I've had an ongoing problem that the back only wears one pad, meaning that one pad does all the work and therefore wears out. Fingers crossed that particular problem gets resolved by the last of many overalls. However even if the pads then lasted twice as long, they'd still wear out quicker than the front.

After you had a Knee Op and don't feel your dragging the break FFS

Just a general question really - as I mostly stick clear of it apart from at lights, I can't imagine it ever actually wearing down. I guess I don't ride in slippery conditions if I can avoid it, though.

The guy I bought the bike from was amazed I even used the back brake at all. Mind you he rides almost exclusively on the track so his rear wheel probably isn't even on the ground when he's braking.

For very slow riding in traffic. To scrub off a bit of speed if i'm slightly fast into a corner (as opposed to using front). Probably not enough to wear pads very fast. Most of the wear on mine was there from the previous owner. I use mostly thinking ahead and engine braking to slow me and a bit of front brakes and fraction of rear at the last minute to come to a stop.

Yes. What Adam said. Using the front brake in a corner (especially on an SV with standard forks) changes the steering geometry too much whereas dragging the rear is just enough.

I have found that using the back helps keep the bike more stable.
Even in practicing emergency stops.
Filtering I use the back as it's good to balance the bike
Hardly use the front below 10 mph.

I think it would be interesting to see someone do low speed manoeuvring without using the rear brake?
