True, but that is not going to wear rear pads out too much as very little heat or speed involved.

My bikes rear pads were 3/4 worn out after 8500 miles when I got it. PO must have been a rear braker.

Using a combination of both brakes will definitely help you to slow down quicker; braking is more about weight distribution than actually stopping your wheels – think about which brake moves the weight where and you’ll get it.
In the Rain you can find it's a good idea to use more rear than you use in the dry.

Yes. I'm aware that my problems with the back skidding may be more to do with slightly grabby use of the front at times causing the weight to transfer too quickly to the front and taking friction with the road surface away from the rear allowing it to skid.
The last time it happened was entering a small roundabout when a car indicating and moving to leave at the exit before the one I was entering suddently changed his mind at the last minute and continued around pulling across in front of me instead. So it's likley I grabbed the front too quickly too and the back slid a bit. Never trust drivers indicators!

I never trust indicators either, never pull out until vehicle is no longer in a position to harm you. Flash of headlights is frowned on these days, some people seem to think it means ' look out I am coming through' I have always taken it to mean 'go ahead I have seen you and am giving way'.

An indicatior is just a pretty flashing light.
Possibly the driver caught the switch when they were texting or swoping a CD.etc.
If you practice breaking it's going to be more natural to squeeze rather than snatch.
Try a progressive increase in pressure.

Find a empty Car park or road on Sunday.
Trading estate are good places.
Prove to yourself you can survive a lock up.
Even on the front .
There's a jump up from the front suspension when the front loses traction .
That's when you let go.
And restart.
You can get this done at 15/20mph buy keeping the power on , then appy the front brak squeezing it untill you lock up , up jumps the suspension and let go of the brake.
