Default Just put the standard shock back in...

Oh dear. The Ohlins is off for a bit of TLC at KTech, so it's back to the biro spring. The drawback of upgrading is that it feels terrible when you go back to stock- I never really felt it was that bad first time round. Plus, the rear's really low. Me not like

No idea, it was probably a bit tired when I got it, and I've put... eh... 5000? 7500? on it since. Previus owner claimed it had only covered a few hundred miles, but that's obvious rubbish from the condition. Not that it's knackered, just lived in.

It's not desperately needing it- still better than stock... But it's a bit undersprung for me and the remote reservoir's damaged so I figure it's time to get it sorted.

I was wondering whats wrong with the original shock, Mine still works fine after 60000 miles and I'm very impressed.
Does the salt get in and wreck it?

Go and ride a low-mile SV, you'll be surprised by the difference... At 60,000 miles your shock's miles past its best, but because it goes off so gradually you don't notice. They lose their damping, don't really know the technical reasons- I think the oil goes thin over time, same as the forks.

Mine's in reasonable nick, it's just not very good. Like I say, i was never too bothered by it when I'd not tried anything else, but going back to it it really feels rubbish.

Rode a new pointy the other day and the rear shock didn't have as much damping as mine
Maybe the old ones were better quality, Anyway mine is still much like the day I bought it.

In the same boat as you(Technoflex needs a service).

How bad is the ride ?. .
I have been but putting it off(seeing if I can push it to spring) course not really looking forward to riding on the original shock.

Thing is I'm running about 10mm(atleast) more ride height at the back and the front is maybe 2mm lower(that is with the GSXR forks being shorter). So that is quite a difference compared to stock

Like you said the OE never really felt that bad but after having used two different after market shocks( Ohlins and Technoflex) you would not want to go back.

Even the front did not feel that bad till I changed to the GSXR forks. I went back to original for a while and I almost could not ride it. I ended up putting some progressive spring robbed off my bros ,dropping the front 12mm/15mm and the back raised even more to get the darn thing to an acceptable level. It just felt terrible .

Cheers
Ben

There is no how you shock is like the day you bought it. You have just got got used to riding round the damping going off.

Cheers

It's not that bad... But the damping adjustment wanders all over the place, sometimes, which is a pain in the ****. Also, it's made it pretty much impossible to find a compression setting that's the right balance of high and low (since the Ohlins doesn't have seperate adjustment for those).

I'm riding like a big girl at the mo Like you, it's down at the front and up at the rear- though not as much as it was with the Ohlins in- so there's plenty of potential for Unexpected Terror there I think. So I'm just going to resist temptation for a couple of weeks.
