Absolutely perfect bike to get you up the ladder. Very forgiving and confidence inspiring for the novice rider.
You'll have no issue at all with one.
I'll second that

Not too much. For the rest I'd be checking insurance.

Try both (Or I'd try more) & go with whatever you like best.

you will love it ... i went from a 125cc to the SV650 ... i did have my eye on the Ninja250 but so glad the price shot which made me get a second hand sv650 and i wouldn't look back at something like a ninja250 now.

go for it you wont be disappointed.

Simiilar situation, except I went from a 100cc pegeuout speedfight (59.5 mph top speed) to a (restricted) SV650. with a 6 month gap where I didnt ride.

You have good experiance on a ninja 250, it won't feel like a whole new world, rather a new country. The faces are all the same, but the sensations a a bit differant and the langauge is new. But you adjust after about...ooo...3 miles.

haha , awesome. Thanks for the great replies guys. I am still floating between the sv650s and the Ninja 650r( ERn-650.) I like the way they both look, especailly the Sv's full fairing look.. But unfortunately 09 only comes in gray and blue =/

Anyone here from USA that can give me more info on the colors on the 09 SV650s? I heard that overall, the sv is a better bike then the 650r.. To me, i think that the SV looks more sporty and nicer.. But that's just me. Im really hoping for different colors =/

I think the colour schemes are blue and black as they are in the Europe market
I think the pre-09 colours were blue red and black

I moved from a GN125 to an Sv650s .... scary at first, but you soon get used to it, and cracking bikes ....

I then went to an ER6 for the comfort ... but maywell change to a Gladius at some stage ... I love the ER6, and the 650 engines are meant to be comparible ... but I find the ER6 slightly lacking in smoothness and character compared to the SV's V-twin ... The SV is definately punching way above its weight (for the money)

Get one ... you won't be disappointed ....

Other than a 125cc for a few days during training to get my licence, I've never riden anything before I bought my SV - so like the others have said, it is a very good bike to learn or begin on.
