Default Where is Mid range ?

So as not to dillute Binky's thread further...

Where is mid range, where is this mythical land, the holly grail of Vtwinness...

I keep riding about how IL4's have no torque and no mid range power.

So how do you define mid range power. Is it simply 50% of the total RPM range according the rev counter or is there some other way of defining it ?

I get a nice dollop of power at 7000rpm on my GSXR, this is roughly halfway through its rev range. IIRC its limiter cuts in at 15000rpm.... Is that not its mid range ?

Between the equally well defined top end and bottom end.

It is indeed the mythical land of holy grailness. No one knows where it starts, no one knows where it ends. Some even say if you ever find the exact middle of the mid range there are naked ladies.
No one has ever seen those naked ladies.

I honestly thought if the saying 'It's got a good mid-range' meant, halfway up the rev counter, say it is 16,000 revs max, at 8000 revs, it was very usable at that amount of revs, but there is still more to give.

At the bit where you are just before the kick up the pants feeling and you take off like a scalded cat.

Middle third? So 5-10K if yours revs to 15. But then I myself would do it from max power. 12.5K is it for a 750? So maybe 4-8K rpm.

So a V-twin about 3-6K rpm.

It's around the middle of it's revs, and having a 'good' mid-range, to me, is when it has a lot of 'instant punch' at around half revs.

Eg:
On the SV, if you're sitting at 5.5, and then open the throttle up full, it's got a big whollop of power and launches you nearly instantly.
Where on something like an R6, when I've ridden it and sat on 7/8k, and opened the throttle up full, it lacked that same initial punch, and although after a few seconds the revs had built up into it's power band and launched to silly speeds, it lacked that initial 'mid range' power

yea id say at about half your rev range if your still pulling, it would be easy'r to see on a dyno chart tho.
