We're staying in Matlock tonight on the last couple of nights of our holiday. I texted a mate/former colleague who lives here to ask him for a recommendation for a restaurant. His reply was 'Come to ours, I'll make you a curry'. So Stu and I just had a really nice evening catching up with him and his family, excellent curry, rounded off with a glass of his home made damson gin.

The 9yo turns to me, bats her eyelids and says "Daddy, if you're going to take me out on the bike can you teach me some biker phrases so I can fit in?"
I think back to the last phrases I uttered while riding (directed at useless drivers) and reply no dear, not till you're older. 😀

The extra fittings I ordered for my spaznav holder arrived on Saturday. After puzzling over where best to use and which way round worked best I tried it out today on a super twisty track I let MyDrive work out for me. With the extra articulation pieces it's not rock solid but it was fine - it's also a lot higher, angled more upright and even in bright sunshine it was easy to read the directions. The only downside was the barmy route. Setting it to super twisty took me on bizarre for-the-sake-of-it round the houses routes that almost took me back on myself, several gravel strewn farm tracks and I cancelled the track and just let the nav do its own thing after I had to stop at a ford that was a raging three feet deep according to the marker post. Still, it was certainly a route I had not previously taken to get to Loomies and some of the little villages I went through were very pretty and worth the detours on their own. 7 out of 10 TomTom and now I know not to use that option next time .

Spending the afternoon sitting in Sally's garden sampling her home made sloe gin, raspberry vodka and a few other fruity delights with a lemon drizzle cake and some yummy quiche made by Sally too. I brought Wimbledon cake made with home grown strawberries and tomato salad from the glut of really sweet tomatoes in my garden. We're also had cheesy wotsits, essential for any party.

Whilst out cycling last night I saw a guy, nose on the tank, wringing the neck of a FISIE, just like the old days & first time I've seen a FSIE in ages
