I prefer silicone grease, more "slimy" so easier to make sure it gets into the crevices of the grooves without stopping the seals going home. If the calipers have seen a lot miles without being stripped down there a good change the pistons are corroded. Stainless are available although a bit pricey. Get stainless bleed nipples as well while you're at it, and stainless pins if you can find them.

These guys are good for parts .. https://www.powerhouse.uk/index.php

But if you just want seals it might be worth going OEM

Red rubber grease ordered, seems to be mentioned a lot. Oil and filter change and will strip the brakes down this weekend to see what they are like. Probably be on asking more questions

Ok had a bit of a nightmare. Couldn’t release pistons last weekend, saw a you tube clip using a bicycle pump on the bleed nipple and just tried and it worked! However there was only one seal on each piston, sure there should have been two?? The ends of the piston were badly corroded. Tried cleaning with a cloth and brake cleaner, then brake oil, but haven’t managed to get rid of all the corrosion. What’s your thoughts on trying a fine wet and dry paper?? Any other thoughts, or it could be 4 new pistons. Thanks

There should be two seals, you'll see the two grooves in the caliper. My opinion is that if the corrosion damage can be felt with your fingernail, the pistons are toast. That was the case with my spare calipers, although in that case one looked like damage from pliers as well. Four stainless steel pistons == about 75 quid. But don't splash out on pistons until you're sure the caliper bodies are OK.

Looks like the dust seal was missing, just doing one Caliper at a time as seals arriving tomorrow. Bodies seem ok so went with 4 new pistons. Fingers crossed

For next time: Suzuki, in their infinite wisdom and kindness, provide a FREE piston release tool. It's called a brake lever and is vastly more powerful and controllable than a bicycle pump!

Glad you decided on new pistons. There's not much between us and the Gravestone on a motorcycle and good Front brakes you can trust are a MUST!

PS

I've used Wilko's Supermarket's Dot 4 Brake fluid for over 15 years and never had a problem using it on all my bikes.Good price and reliable.Whilst in there get a Big can of Bargain price GT85 PTFE lube.Way to useful not to have for the bikes and around the house.I also use GT85 to re-waterproof my gloves/Boots and Jacket but outside as although it has a nice smell it's pervasive.
