Seems my earlier comment may have been misunderstood by a few. I wasn't suggesting chucking out good rubber. I was suggesting sometimes a tyre is past it's best even if it's still within the legal limit. A square tyre caused by motorway riding is an example.

Personally I don't chuck away good rubber.

Tis true. And you're lucky if they're square. After a year or so of commuting on only motorways and roundabouts, my tyres went decidedly lop-sided.

If they made every other roundabout go the other way it'd solve this particular issue
