Re: Chain Needs constant adjustment
With regards to lubing, I often applied lubricatant with every tankfull of petrol during the winter. Just a little squirt to keep it topped up. Once a fortnight I would wipe the chain down with a parraffin soaked rag and re-lub with fresh stuff.
But it still wasnt enough this winter, I had trouble fighting off the corrosion. In the end, my dad took to soaking it in engine oil for a week and now I have a scottoiler to do the business for me. I just inspect it once a week for slack and get it adjusted as required |

Re: Chain Needs constant adjustment
You need a new chain/sprocket set asap.If the links went stiff through lack of lube the bearings are fooked and will wear out very quick. Then the chaiun snaps when you least want it to.

Re: Chain Needs constant adjustment
Basically regardless of how tight the chain is, you will be able to tell just how much your chain has stretched by the amount of sprocket tooth visable when lifting the chain from the rear sprocket. Looking at the chain from the side pull the chain away from the rear sprocket at the 3 o'clock position. If you can see any more than a third of the tooth from behind the chain, then your chain is stretched beyond servicability and should look at changing it.

Re: Chain Needs constant adjustment
Yes, on a 800 mile trip you should have lubed the chain. At least a couple of times IMO.
Not sure you need to replace everything though. If you do go for a full set, go steel not anodised alloy for the rear IMO. |

Re: Chain Needs constant adjustment
So far I was looking at the cheaper DID stuff on ebay for around £75 delivered. Cash is tight right now and I would rather have the money for riding the thing than blingy Gold chains

Blimey Si, I'm surprised you even considered those . 48 quid just for a rear sprocket
