NW Rideouts & accidents

I'd just liked to say as a relative newbie to all of this, that I think splitting into two groups would be a shame. I like working my way through the pack. I found on NW3 that I was in the moderate to slow group, but, since then through practice and bike improvements I have found that even 2 up I was able to ride more comfortably and yet at a more challenging pace on NW3.5.

From what I have been told, each of these ding dongs that have occured were pure accidents, there is no linkable factor etc.I do agree that more 1st aiders may be an idea especially if the group gets bigger......

my 2 experiences of NW have been amazing and long may it last as you are all a great bunch and a good laugh to ride with and socialise with. We all know the risks before we go and all need to maybe excercise caution when pushing beyond our limits (not that Stretchie was on this one)

I really think there is no correlation in any of these crashes, accidents happen, I really don’t think that any of the accidents could have been avoided by the rider at the time.

The only similar factor in two of the crashes is the tyres; Both Stretchie and Jason were on BT-021’s in the wet!!

I really don’t think there is anything that can be done to avoid an accident. As for splitting into groups, no point. The marker system kind of ensures that the faster ones get to have fun by working their way through the pack to be marker again and then start again. I had fun doing that on NW3.5 especially in the dry.

So I kind of find this thread quite pointless as I can’t see it achieving anything at all.

For me the 3 I have been on have been great and nothing could have been done to avoid the accidents.

As LP and Speed Claire have said it is up to the individual rider to ride within their limits and ride safely.

Not even a hieghted awareness for possible attendees on future NW rideouts? Geez, no pleasing some people!

If there's a group, I may be able to blag use of one of the large rooms at work too, either free or at a discount (obviously attendees pay any fees needed not you Claire, as you'd be teaching). If you're up for something like that, that is.

lol.... I really don`t mind. I could do a shortened what I would interpret as "bike related" first aid but wouldn`t be able to issue certificates to you as it wouldn`t be the approved 4 day first aid course.

I'm just looking at these. 45 quid doesn't seem excessive.

I think the most important thing to be highlighted is that no newbie riders have been involved in any accidents nor have any of the accidents been caused by another rider harrying that person and forcing them to crash.

We go to great pains to explain to peeps about the set-up and the importance of riding within that persons limits.

These NW's are long days with a lot of spirited riding opportunities on challenging roads. whether people wish to extend their experience or just take in the scenery is entirely their own decision.
