Default seriously considering a 2002 SV650s

Hi All,
i am new to this site but please play nice!
I am currently taking my DAS and am looking for a bike when i pass my test, and after seeing a 2002 SV650s i really want one, think it would be ideal first bike for me. i am looking to spend £2000-£2500 on one and was wondering if this is achievable and if so is the any things with the model that i should look out for, i am a little concerned that the engine block must get covered in crap from the front wheel, how badly does this corrode it? also as this will be my first bike, i am slightly paranoid that i may drop it, is it possible to get crash mushrooms for it?

Also would people agree with the following on the overall rating of

http://www.bikez.com/bike/rating.php?idbike=20051

Thas a lot

Perfectly doable. You should be able to get a nice bike for that.

Not sure on this one, I don't own that model.

Corrosion on the block isn't a problem I've heard about. Getting crap around the front plug can be, which just needs a fender extender and cleaning to fix.

Yup, lots of companies make them. R&G are popular but I couldn't tell you which ones are best.

More or less, though I think they've overrated the offroad capabilities a bit much and the repair/maintenance costs don't need to be all that bad.

hi there, being a newbie to big bikes also (passed DAS 2 months ago) i must say that the SV is even easier to ride and more confidence inspiring than the 500 i did my test on!(seems more nimble and flickible) fantastic first choice!

Hi there, welcome and good choice. I got mine for £1500 over a year and half ago with 4800 miles on the clock so you'll definately be able to get a good one with the money you can spend. Dave
