Default My speedo is going crazy!!

Can anyone tell me why my speedo is going crazy even though the bike is standing still? It keeps going up and down randomly, It did get very wet a couple of weeks ago when i got caught out in the heavy rain. Cheers Mike

The rev counter should be pretty well sealed from the elements.

Possibilities that I can think of (this early in the morning):
- Alternator or Regulator/Rectifier fault. If this is the case, the speedo may start being erratic too.
- A partially broken wire somewhere. Check common rubbing points & pay attention to the connector on the back of the clocks.
- A green furry main engine earth.

hmmm mine does the same, but it's part and parcel of other issues I'm having. If it's just the speedo being affected maybe a wire?

I've been having this problem for a couple of weeks now too. Numbers were going mad and the odometer was clocking up at the speed it was going at (not good when it got stuck at 299kmh!!!). Replaced the little plastic thing (speedo rotor ?) yesterday because that was busted and all seemed ok till this morning when I parked up and the digits started jumping around again. not as much as previous though.

Possibly the cable or a connection? Or something more sinister.....
