Default Ohlins shock spring rates by rider weight

I searched this forum and the internet looking for spring rates by rider weight for the SV650 with no luck, so I emailed Ohlins USA yesterday. (I bought a new shock online and had no idea if I had the right spring on it.)

Jerry from Ohlins responded with the following information:

"The springs for the SU 606 shock are listed as follows:

01096-21: standard spring that comes on the shock. Fits "dressed" rider weight
of 155-175#.

01096-24: one step up. Fits dressed rider weight of 175-200#.

01096-26: two steps up. Fits dressed rider weight of 200-225#."
The SU 606 is the piggyback reservoir shock for 2003-2008 SV650 models.

I hope this information is helpful to anyone looking at an Ohlins shock for his/her SV650.

I must admit I always find it easier to understand when I see it in either stones or kilo's. So that'll be fully dressed rider weights of . . . .

11st 1lbs / 70.4kgs to 12st 7lbs / 79.5kgs for the 01096-21

12st 7lbs / 79.5kgs to 14st 4lbs / 90.8kgs for the 01096-24

14st 4lbs / 90.8kgs to 16st 1lbs / 102.2kgs for the 01096-26

. . . . unless my maths is getting worse.

Racetech have an on-line calculator for the SV650. you can google racetech. It takes a bit of poking about to find it though, but it works well. You can enter your weight in lbs or kilos and it gives you your ideal spring rate, you then pick the nearest

If you buy the shock from steve jordan, he will get all your info and then advise the best set up based on your riding style, and info gathered from previous SV setups

I'm in the U.S., so everything is in pounds (not the money) over here.

I believe the race-tech spring calculator is just for the front forks. They don't have a shock for the 2003+ SV650.

I emailed Ohlins because I bought the shock online and didn't know if the people I bought it from put the correct spring on it. I did tell them my weight, without gear, and that the bike is used for trackdays/racing only. When the shock arrived, it said "resprung" somewhere. Thankfully, they put the correct spring on the shock.

Ours is at Jordan's at the moment, being serviced. He has our combined weights, knows we don't pootle, and will make sure it has the correct weight spring, which it didn't have.
