Slight leakage.....exhaust
Hey all, as some of you may know i fitted a 2 into 2 laser extreme system to my K3 sv650 recently. av done a few miles since fitting it and did a routine tighten/check on everything and i have noticed a slight air leakage at front header pipe. i say slight as ya fingers need to be about 10-15mm away to feel it (it cant be heard) and its only from the top of the pipe not all the way round, so i assumed an angle problem sumwhere
after many hours of un-doing the system, wiggling it around and re-tightening (i even brought another gasket) i can not get rid of the chuffing leakage! is there sum sorta sealant i can put in there since the leak is so minor? any advice from the experts? (apart from scrap the cans lol) any input gratefully recieved! thx in advance Amp |

Re: Slight leakage.....exhaust
High temperature exhaust sealant. You can get some from halfords. I put it around the the outlet, squash the gasket in there, a little more sealant and then bolt the header pipe on.

Re: Slight leakage.....exhaust
I take it you mean it is leaking from the OEM front header (Laser re-uses OEM front/rear header) as you have bought a new gasket....
Are the header nut/bolts tightened up to the correctly? If yes, then I would recommend getting some liquid gasket (available from car/bike shops). Undo the front header and smear some onto the gasket (top/bottom/outside) and the outer section of the header and then reassemble. Last edited by Dangerous Dave; 20-12-08 at 11:43 AM. Re: Slight leakage.....exhaust
I'd ignore it if it's so minor.

@ yorkie_chris....... the leak is very minor, would ignoring it and letting it blow a lil not do a bit of harm mebe even in the long-term? |

Re: Slight leakage.....exhaust
You've got the chance of some popping and banging... but the EFI bikes deliberately leak air in on the overrun anyway.
There is the danger of a hot-spot making the hole bigger, but I doubt it will cause a problem. It wouldn't bother me to leave it. Obviously the safe approach is to fix it as BA and dave suggest.

Re: Slight leakage.....exhaust
I have a small leak on the Dullsville. I am just too lazy to be bothered with fixing it.
