Anyone tried EBC "V" Semi-Sintered Pads
Hi,
I've used EBC organic pads on my pointy and I'm very happy with the feel and function of the brakes. However they seem to wear quite quickly. So when these come up for replacement I was thinking of trying the semi-sintered parts FA229V and FA231V. https://ebcbrakesdirect.com/motorcycle/partno/fa229v Just wonder if anyone had already tried, and how they worked out. I've shied away from sintered so far partly because I don't want the discs worn out but also because I absolutely have to have brakes that work in the cold. Thanks, Tony S |

Re: Anyone tried EBC "V" Semi-Sintered Pads
i've never had issues with sintered pads, i prefer them to a standard 'organic' compound as the bite of the pad is better. Discs and pads are designed to wear! To ensure you have the best braking performance possible is better than having brake discs 10 years old and saved a couple of quid.

Thanks. How do you find them in winter? I was just going by various comments suggesting that they don't work well in low temperatures, and/or are less predictable until warmed up or in the wet. Hence wondering if semi-sintered might be a compromise.

Sintered pads designed for road use have loads of bite from cold (more than organic pads IME), they are not like race pads that need warming up.

Re: Anyone tried EBC "V" Semi-Sintered Pads
I recently fitted EBC sintered pads on the front. The packet had check boxes for * Organic *Sintered (for road use) and * Sintered (for track use). These were marked as road use ones and right from fitting they were miles better than the worn out organic ones that were previously fitted. Even before bedding in. Loads more bite, even at the beginning of journeys on colder mornings a few weeks ago.

I would go for 'best of both' semi sintered - I had them on a previous bike and they stopped pretty well, had good feel, didn't chew the discs up and lasted well.

I prefer the feel of organic in the rear, less bite and more control. For the front though, fully sintered is much better.
No problems with poor cold weather performance or excessive disk wear, front or rear. Organics do wear quicker, so factor the cost and hassle of that, when comparing disk wear. |

I'd agree. I've got fully sintered in the rear too and they grab too much for slow speed control. Also locked up the rear tyre too easily a few times. When I replace the rear I'd go organic again.

I definitely don't want anything that's going to "grab" at the front either.

Re: Anyone tried EBC "V" Semi-Sintered Pads
Possibly bite is a better description. Much better than slippery.. which is slightly more beneficial at the back.
