Pillions and tyre life
This lunchtime, I read somewhere that (if I can remember the quote now) "carrying a pillion actually extends the tyre's life because there is greater pressure and surface area in contact with the road, so slippage is less - thus tyre life extended".
Not being any kind of physicist this sounds wrong, as surely the increased weight/force = higher friction = a faster rate of wear (akin to a car)? Also, with extra weight, surely the tyre will square off faster too? Or is it me failing to understand the science behind motorbike tyres?  Cheers, Al. PS I'm hoping it's not the latter! |

Used to get little bobbles on me rear when two up. not really solo. So I reckon two up does nowt for tyre life.

I took Liz to Gosport on Saturday morning on the back of the GSXR, two hours mostly motorway really chewed up my rear tyre, lots of bobbles and rubber graining off on it.
I'd say taking a pillion alot would reduce your rear tyre life a fair bit.

We used to get around 4,500 from BT010's, but only 1,400 from BT014's. Diablo's, around 3,500. We've clocked up just over 4,000 on our PR2's, and the rear still seems to have a fair bit left in it. We don't give our tyres an easy life either
