K5 Front Suspension Upgrade
Hi Guys,
I tried to search through the forum but haven't managed to find the answer I was looking for. I am looking to upgrade the front suspension on my SV650S K5 and was wondering what options do I have: All I managed to dig out online is the the below: GSXR ZX6R Does anyone know exactly what GSXR model front could be used on my K5? Is it 600? 750? What year model for GSXR, what year for ZX6R? Anyone bikes I can use suspensions from? What hits exactly do I need to replace? How much would it run me? Is there a post already online about it? I'd much appreciate your feedback. Thanks a lot |

http://forums.sv650.org/showthread.php?t=222687 If you've got a spare £700 that's everything you'll need.

Why not re-Spring to your weight and fit emulators?

Re: K5 Front Suspension Upgrade
I've just done springs and emulators, quite an improvement on the sloppy standard stuff. Cost in the region of £165 plus my time to fit. Just the rear shock to sort out now but I can't seem to find one that's suits for a sensible price.

Re: K5 Front Suspension Upgrade
I went insensible and got the front sprung and valves and put a proper rear shock on. And got it properly set up by people who know what they're doing.
And I'm loving it! You only live once and you can't take money with you! |

Re: K5 Front Suspension Upgrade
while i'm all for advocating a front end swap on the SV you have to ask yourself if your going to use the added benefit.
how many miles do you do each time you are out on the bike? how long do you plan on keeping the SV? is the bike full power or on a restriction? how long have you had your licence? as this will affect insurance. to do it properly you have to do both ends. any GSXR front end from K1-k5ish slip straight on the pointy and keeps the steering lock. realistically it costs around £1k to fully sort the SV suspension but you will get around £300 back on the SV forks etc.etc. |

Re: K5 Front Suspension Upgrade
What about doing a cartridge kit for the front. I am looking into this myself and the price is steep approx. 350 pounds for the kit but you get to keep all your other bits. I dunno what it would cost to fit but I am assuming it would not change your insurance.

if you only want performance then the GSXR 600 k1-3 RWU forks are the cheapest you will find, everything bar the front wheel is very available via ebay and such, the front wheel is the big problem as they are rare to find in good condition at a reasonable price. one other problem with swapping out the front end is the speedo, you have to mod the front discs with magnets and add a sensor. i took this one step further and made a complete bespoke kit that run off the back sprocket but there was no interest so i ran out of swingarm brackets. its a pity people wont pay for quality. |

Re: K5 Front Suspension Upgrade
I really was tempted with a usd swap and I get that it's more easily adjustable, looks good etc. etc. but it's such a costly switch and as Bibio said you have to weigh up what you use it for and how regularly. I couldn't justify it
