Track bike, is it worth it?
Hi all
I'm after some friendly advice from those in the know, who have been there and done it. I have a 2000 plate SV650S, it has done high mileage (60,000) but runs well enough. Possibly needs cam chain adjusters as these tick slightly at low revs when cold. I've done a couple of short track days and loved the experience. I plan on going to Oulton next year. As you can imagine, the front forks need servicing and uprating, second hand rear shock (ZX6R), sticky tyres and the odd bits. Possibly £500. Does any body think its worth it due to the mileage? Thanks in advance |

Re: Track bike, is it worth it?
Thanks for the reply.
I'm not going to go mad on the spend as I only have a limited budget. There seems to be loads of used parts around in case the worse happens anyway. |

Re: Track bike, is it worth it?
I'm loving it as a beginners track day bike
To begin with I wouldn't say getting expensive 'sticky' tyres is worth it - just use the ones you have. Suspension is definitely worth sorting out - get front and rear springs that match your weight and get it set up properly by someone who knows what they're doing And the £10 quick(er) acting throttle upgrade is well worth 5 minutes of your time. |

Re: Track bike, is it worth it?
Cheers Englishman, I need tyres for road use anyway so will probably get some dual purpose/sports touring
Any ideas which quick action? I've seen expensive ones but none for that much. People have mentioned an R6 upgrade but I think you have to change the clip-ons? |

Re: Track bike, is it worth it?
The original Yamaha R6 throttle tube works on the SV. IIRC!

Re: Track bike, is it worth it?
Cheers
Auction site it is then. Does the standard R6 throttle make that much of a difference? I know its an out and out sports bike but they do sell quick action kits for them also |

They're only a tenner from somewhere like Fowlers brand new, no point in messing about on eBay for that.
