About to move to be an IT trainer.

Spent most of my time with Customs as a computer audit officer and a secondment doing computer forensics. So while Im technically a VAT officer, Im a technical one.

You cant work IT, either your in IT or not in IT.
i.e. You would be fiddling with that sort of stuff anyway because it cool (or have done in the past and just stayed with it)

If you are moving into IT because of them adverts on TV...Earn 70k/pa within 2years from our training course, then dont bother.

Anyway, yep, im a geek for a fairly large company (first 8th of the fortune 500), and run there Eurpean network, along with internet related services, Mail, DNS, etc..etc...) All based on various unixes.

PHP/Perl/SQL, etc are my usall weapons of choice, but it depends what needs to be done.

Not in my company... we have "customer managers"!

Seriously though, while I'm sure there are competent sales people with an insightful grasp of the product they're selling, the majority (in my experience) are target driven numpites who promise the client solutions that are impossible to implement on time, within budget and with all the features required.

I'm sure you fit in the first category

I used to work in a company where a large a proportion of the sales force actually believed the "I pay your wages" thing.
They all (sadly) fell into your second category. I tried to explain that

No coders - No software to sell
No support - No bugs fixed = crap software = no one will buy it
No IT support - No boxes to cut code on
No consultants - No-one to implement software

And that we did all actually work for the same company, unfortunately they where all seeing who could talk the loudest in the office and laughing at their own jokes to take any notice
