Protection

Hi all

Due to people talking about how harmful road salt is on the old bike and how the forks on the sv can be vulnerable, can anyone sugest a product i can spray or polish onto my bike and forks to protect it?

any links would be a great help.

Try and do a vaguely regular clean and keep coated with that scottoiler spray or wd40 is the usual advice.

Scottoiler 365 reacts with salt to prevent the negative effects, and at the same time thicken the Scottoiler solution to make it stick better- it doesn't wash off as easily as WD40 will in the wet, in other words. And it seems to work as well The only downer is it tends to make your bike look quite unbelievably filthy, mine was mistaken for a peat bog yesterday.

Also make sure you don't get any of the 365 spray on your brake disks or calipers. Its fun having no effective front brakes

If you spray it on the engine or anything that get warm make sure you run the bike for a few minutes before riding off to burn it of. The taste of the fumes is horrid.

Best thing to do is just wash the forks with cold water every couple of days, just hose em down or get one of them garden spray things.

I try to wash mine everyday during winter as you can literally seee it rotting once salt gets on it.

Clear film on the forks purchased from Hein gerieke will stop the pitting, cost £5 a sheet which is a bit much, had mine on ages without problems. I think you can laso get it from halfords

i dont have any scot oiler spray but i do have wd40, do u mean i should just put a light amount all over my bike? excluding the brakes etc.

i really wont be arsed to wash the bike everyday:P

i bought one of those power jet washers from a boy racer car accessories shop for £30

not really expecting much from it i have been really impressed with it's power. just plug it in and all road crud is blasted off in seconds. takes about 2 minutes to clean the whole bike.

apart from the bike it's been one of the best buys.

Add the power washer to a quick spray of muc-off and the bike is sparkly in no time

I have covered my forks in black gaffa tape to prevent the salt from doing its nasty deed. Seems to be working so far.

THe K3's definately aren't susceptible in the same way as the ugly versions are ( ) Don't know about the K4's but my K3 was ridden all through winter last year with no problems to the finish. I only washed it every couple of weeks too (it was ridden daily)
